Platinum Insurance writes non-standard auto: drivers with a lapse in coverage, an OWI, at-fault accidents, or no prior insurance history at all. Standard carriers decline these for reasons that have little to do with how you actually drive. We are appointed with carriers that price for them instead of refusing them.
We also write standard auto for clean drivers, and we quote both across several companies rather than pulling one off a shelf.
If the BMV has told you to file an SR-22, that has its own page.
What an auto policy covers
Most policies are assembled from the same building blocks. Which ones you need, and at what limits, is the part worth getting right.
- Liability: injuries and property damage you cause to others. This is what protects your assets, and the coverage drivers most often carry too little of.
- Collision: damage to your own vehicle from an impact, regardless of fault.
- Comprehensive: theft, hail, fire, flooding, vandalism and animal strikes. Indiana weather makes this less optional than it sounds.
- Uninsured and underinsured motorist: covers you when the other driver has no insurance or nowhere near enough.
- Medical payments: medical costs for you and your passengers, no matter who caused the crash.
- Roadside assistance and rental reimbursement: small add-ons that matter most on the worst day.
Why you might have been declined elsewhere
Any of these can put you in the non-standard market:
- A gap in coverage, even a few weeks between policies.
- An OWI, a suspension, or an active SR-22 requirement.
- At-fault accidents or several moving violations.
- No prior insurance history in the US, or a license from another country.
- A young or newly licensed driver in the household.
- A previous policy canceled for non-payment.
None of these mean you cannot be insured. They mean you need a carrier that prices for them.
What Indiana requires you to carry
The state minimum is 25/50/25: $25,000 for bodily injury to one person, $50,000 for bodily injury per accident, and $25,000 for property damage.
It is worth saying plainly that the minimum is a legal floor, not a sensible target. A single hospital stay clears $25,000 quickly, and anything above your limit follows you personally. Uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage has to be offered to you in Indiana and can be rejected in writing. Think hard before rejecting it, because it is what pays when the driver who hits you has nothing.
How we quote it
We start with your driving profile and the assets you would need to protect, then price the same coverage across multiple carriers. You see the comparison, including what each quote leaves out. If bundling with home or renters lowers the total, we will tell you, and if it does not, we will tell you that too.

Common questions
- Can you insure me if I have had a lapse in coverage?
- Yes. A gap is one of the most common reasons standard carriers decline, and one of the things our carriers are built to price.
- Do you write policies for drivers with an OWI?
- Yes. Tell us when you call, along with the date, because it changes which carriers will look at you and it is much cheaper to handle at quoting time.
- I have a license from another country. Can I get covered?
- Usually yes. Bring what you have and we will tell you which carriers accept it.
- Will bundling my home or renters policy lower the price?
- Often, and we price it both ways so you can see the real difference rather than assume.
